Our inspiring visitor centre at Jodrell Bank is a regional finalist at the Civic Trust Awards 2023!

The Civic Trust Awards celebrate excellence in the built environment, with a focus on sustainability and universal design. Casson Mann designed this immersive exhibition, which brings to life the human story of Jodrell Bank and the birth of a whole new science: the exploration of the Universe using radio waves instead of visible light.

Casson Mann conceived of making the fabric of the exhibition from the skin of the Lovell telescope: we created a circular panorama of dish panels, bringing visitors into direct contact with the authentic metal parts that have ‘looked’ towards the heavens and been touched by cosmic rays and ‘space dust.’  Architects Hassell Studio designed the building itself around this panorama. Hassell have created an inverted dome of the same 76m diameter as the Lovell telescope, which complements the array of dish panels within.
