Freeman gives five stars to the new Hunterian Museum, designed by Casson Mann, calling it "an exemplary, if icky, revamp."
"After a queasy tour of the cabinets, I left jelly-legged, but impressed. The museum reopens this week after a six-year, £4.6million development of the Royal College of Surgeons."
"There are 3,000 objects on display, among them more than 2,000 anatomical preparations from Hunter’s collection. Shelf after shelf of them, bleached and eerie in glass jars, like the walk-in larder of Dr Frankenstein."
"The Hunterian is not for the squeamish and you might not want to find yourself accidentally locked in after dark — all those eyes, glass and otherwise — but Hunter’s weird wunderkammer remains an awesome tribute to the spirit of scientific curiosity."
